Dead games

  • There are many games that are awesome simply by their game play, but have died simply because they are old, or no one plays them anymore, or they have been  (solved) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solved_game

I have two games in mind

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance  (not the second one and not the very first one in the series)

    Splinter Cell chaos theory.

As for supreme commander: it has been solved in the sense that a perfect beginning setup will make or break the game and that it now relies more on a certain behavior of play rather than actual skill or cunning. As a result, the online play is dead because a few players  (easily less than 100) dominate the landscape and although i have had a few wins, i have had 30+ losses and don’t bother playing online anymore. I don’t know when it came out, but it is the most complex and grand RTS game i have ever or will ever play for many reasons. It is only 5 dollars + shipping so give it a try if you like RTS games at all. It is also easy to mod and i made a few mods just to switch up game play. It is very fun to play with players your skill level so if you have local friends with good enough computers, organize a LAN game. Or you could play with me or anyone else over the internet.  If anyone is interested i will post my mods and what they do.  (so even though the game is essentially dead online it is still worth playing against ai which i still cant beat the cheating AI)

Splinter Cell chaos theory is just dead because of time i guess.

Command and conquer red alert also.

Post any games that are dead but are worth playing.

  • Diablo 2 LoD - about 10 years old but still one of the most fun games i’ve ever played

  • Descent 3.  Multiplayer is all but dead at this point but it’s one of the best games ever made.

  • I agree with you on Supreme Commander. Once you figure out how to make some nice efficient templates, the game gets pretty easy.

Also, if you liked Supreme Commander, you’ll probably like <a href=“http://store.steampowered.com/app/40400/?snr=1_4_4__13”>Ai War</a> too. (not a dead game)

  • jagged alliance 2

  • @CheezeWhiz:

    <a href=“http://store.steampowered.com/app/40400/?snr=1_4_4__13”>Ai War</a>

You should all buy that game so we can reconquer the universe.

  • I’m always up for an AI War game if anyone wants, I have the Zenith expansion but not the Neinzul one though.

  • Rise of Nations: Gold Edition

Sometimes I arrange a game and we play with 4-7 People.

Rise of Nations is just good for multiplayer, not so much Singleplayer.

  • Ricochet, Quake III Arena (Not Live), Trackmania

  • Banned

    Call of Duty 2

  • Halo 1 custom edition

  • there needs to be a noxiousnet ricochet tournament

  • Need help installing Descent 3 on Vista 64-bit, the setup.exe runs but then just sits in the background doing nothing.

Never had that issue.  Two disk edition here, no problems (well, almost no problems, see white textures in the last video) on 7 Professional x64.  Tried compatibility mode?  At the very least, I could always send you my install (it doesn’t need a CD to run or any registry keys.)

  • Nothing I have tried worked you can try sending me the files Justice but I won’t be able to test until Monday, going on a ski trip.

  • I heard that unreal tournament 3 is dead.

  • Darkstalkers. An old arcade fighting game you can play online using kaillera or other programs.
Still need to test different methods to see if some work better than others/which work at all.

  • Freelancer. It still has some people online, but not as many as it used to be
