Remove/adjust detectives?



  • In the old days of TTT, there were only Innocents and Traitors. However, gameplay was significantly changed once Detectives were added. It was an interesting concept to have several people confirmed as being innocent, not to mention they got some handy tools. However, in reality, most of the time it was nothing more than an idiot riding on a high horse.

    Gameplay was far more interesting when there were no detectives. For one, innocents could actually go around and kill potential traitors who have decisive evidence against them without idiots screaming “RDMER!11”. Gameplay was also much more risky, because there was usually no way to know who was completely innocent. Gameplay was actually based on the way innocents coordinated themselves and went about deciding who the traitor was, rather than who the game system had randomly chosen to call all the shots for innocents that round.

    Since the gamemode used to be much less popular when it did not have detectives, most people on NoxiousNet haven’t experienced the joy of it, potentially including JetBoom. My proposal is that detectives are removed for a week or some other period of time to see how it goes in comparison to detective gameplay, and then make changes if necessary. It would also give the server something different over a regular TTT server, and make it funner for innocents too.

    Trust me, everything is completely different when there are no detectives, for better or worse.

    Yeah bad idea it makes killing random people less fun.

    No because when you’re a detective you can get people to RDM for you and when you’re not a detective then you can kill detectives and state that they were stealth traitors.

  • Pro-Detective Argument
    -It helps structure gameplay
    -Detective Tools are nice to have

    Anti-Detective Argument
    -It helps make things more even/fair for the traitors
    -More mindless killing, which is a good thing!
    -More mistrust, more engaging games.

    I don’t see why we can’t have both.

    Compromise: Detectives can also be Traitors (And have all of their passive abilities AND a DNA scanner). However they can still only access the traitor buy menu (So traitors can’t buy health stations for themselves).
    -It brings back the fact that ANYONE can be a traitor.
    -The tools remain.
    -Even more room for player mistrust.



  • detectives can be traitors… eliminating the point of a “detective”. Why not just give half the traitors dna scanners and other crap?

    That is ridiculous. It would defeat the purpose and turn the game into more of a paranoia.



  • Detectives serve their role properly in the current TTT.  Why remove them?  Removing them won’t stop people from whining about RDMing.
