New to mapping



  • So I am used to using Source SDK for my own fun (Such as making a single player map using HL2 engine to do things like do some objective)

    Some questions I have is

    (A.) Can I get a general idea on how to work all the ZS entities
    (B.) Must they be pakratted, even if CS:S content
    (C.) It seems like blocky must be avoided on Teamplay maps, any ideas to avoid showing something “blocky”

    I have not really mapped for multiplayer, so i would appreciate any tips and hints Oh i do know how to use Hints and skips, and area-portals

    and don’t play with the zsgamerules entity, it doesn’t work.



  • Yeah I have read those threads. I want a general idea on putting it together and executing them correctly, and possibly examples of map using the entities. (So i can diagnose possible problems if it wont work)

  • B) Yes all custom content that is not in HL2 should be pakratted.

    C) Actually teamplay maps are the ones that tend to be the most blocky, and ZS maps the ones that require more detail. There are 100’s of ways to fix blockyness, but often it is a case of adding some detail brushes (supports to a wall for instance) or some prop statics to the mix. Avoid also using one texture for everything, and make sure any that you use are correctly aligned.

  • Oh wow, a fgd that helps alot, I would most likely tend to get lazy renaming entities instead of click and make.

    I guess i gotta fire up pakrat now.

    I guess support beams, trash, decals, rocks, bumps, decrease blockiness in general.
