Tribes RPG returns

  • Introduction

Starsiege: Tribes is an FPS game from 1998. Even if it’s ooooollld, it still has really good gameplay and had the largest user-base of its time. It still has plenty of servers and players to this day despite the master servers being shut down years ago. Those are now ran by the players.

Tribes RPG is a total conversion that lets you play in an RPG environment with real-time, first-person combat. It was very popular in its time but by now only real addicts play the original Tribes RPG. This version I’m hosting is basically a whole new game compared to the original RPG. It has a hard skill cap and no character levels, physical projectile spells, quick skill ups, clan/guild warfare, territory control, and is nearly-full loot. The main ‘point’ of the game right now is territory control and warfare. If the player base is maintained then it will go in to active development so it becomes a full-fledged SandBox RPG.

Capturing a zone now gives you Silver! Quite a lot of Silver too. The formula is 50 x Enemies = Silver per 5 every minutes of holding the territory. So if your guild holds all the zones in the server when 10 enemy guild members are on:
50 x 9 territories x 10 enemy members x 12 (5 minutes) = about 54,000 Silver per hour. That’s more than you can make on any GMod gamemode. Just join any gmod server and it gets transferred, as well as letting everyone in the server know how much you just earned. If you do this and you don’t have a static IP then I suggest you do it immediately after you’re done playing Tribes since this works with IP addresses.

    How to start playing

    1. Download

NoXiousNet Tribes RPG Complete Pack - Includes the full game (192 MB)
    Mirror 1: http://www.mediafire.com/?bhxmbzbwzkqgc77
    Mirror 2: http://heavy.noxiousnet.com/tribes_vist_111_rpg_deus_rm_hb.zip
    Mirror 3 (torrent): http://www.1337upload.net/files/tribes_vist_111_rpg_deus_rm_hb.torrent

If you are upgrading your current installation, make sure you save the config/players.cs file somewhere!

    2. Install

    • Simply drag the Dynamix folder to whatever drive you want to play off of. Usually C:\

    • Start up the game by using the Start RPG Mod shortcut. If it doesn’t work for some reason then use T1Vista.exe.

    • Setup your video settings and controls. DO NOT override the V key. It’s reserved for your shortcut menu! You must use full screen and OpenGL for the best quality and performance.

    • Go to multiplayer and you’ll be taken to the character screen. Make a new character. Type in a name for your character in the name field. It can only contain letters and numbers with no spaces! The ‘other info’ field is your password and must be filled out. Don’t lose it!

    • Look for the NoXiousNet.com RPG server. It should be in your favorites. If you can’t find it for some reason then open the console with (~) and type connect(“65.60.53.26”); and press enter.

    • After about 10 seconds of loading, you should be in the game. Read the next section on how to get started in-game.

    Getting Started

Most of the simple help can be accessed by pressing O (objectives menu in Tribes).

When you first start your character, you should be asked what three skills you would like to start with. These skills will all start at 40 instead of 0. A good beginner’s build is Vitality, Defensive Casting, and a weapon of your choice. Vitality will give you a slightly higher amount of HP and Defensive Casting will let you cast stronger heal spells.

Once you’re done, you should appear in a town. Towns are almost completely safe unless you’re in a guild. Feel free to look around and talk to any NPC’s. To talk to an NPC, walk up to them and greet them. Simply open chat (press T) and say “hi” or “hello”. Depending on which NPC you’re talking to, they’ll give you a number of options to pick from there. Be sure you’re close enough to the NPC you’re talking to. All conversations with NPC’s are done this way. The most important NPC’s you’ll meet are the banker and the merchant. Bankers let you store gold and items. Merchants let you buy items, weapons, and equipment as well as sell them at a largely reduced price. Remember, once you reach 175 combined skill level, you are no longer considered a newbie and you can be freely killed by other players outside of town. You will also drop all of your items and gold except for your starter weapon and armor. Always bank or sell stuff you don’t want to lose!

Most actions are chat commands. Because it would be tedious to write all these out, a chat script has been made for you. You can access it by pressing V. Almost all RPG commands are available here including all magic spells.

You should also check out the TAB menu which shows the location, guild, and rank of all players as well as some options. You can disable music in the TAB menu.

The first place you’ll want to go is either the Burial Tree or the Rin Sewers. The sewers are right outside of the town and contain goblins. The Burial Tree also has goblins but is a very progressive dungeon with harder monsters towards the bottom. The harder monsters are tough even for maxed out characters so make sure you have the appropriate armor and even a group of players before you try to take them on.

To mine, equip your pickaxe and simply hit the purple gem stones scattered around. Depending on the quality of the gem stone (usually how accessible the area it’s in is) and your mining skill, you may get valuable items from this.

Guilds can capture territories. A zone that can be captured will have a Zone Control Switch in it. Run in to it and a while later your guild will then control it. Enemy guilds won’t be able to directly transport to it and each zone has its own global bonuses for owning it! Only join a guild if you’re sure you’re ready. You can freely be killed by members of other guilds even while in a town!

    Useful chat commands

    • #global - Allows you to speak to every person on the server.

    • #zone - Allows you to speak to everyone in your current zone.

    • #g / #guild - Allows you to speak to everyone in your guild.

    • #shove - Shoves the player in front of you out of the way.

    • #cast transport <PART OF A ZONE NAME> - Teleport to specified zone as long as you have the mana, skill, and the zone isn’t controlled by an enemy guild.

    • #cast blink - Teleport to the last zone you were in. The zone must not be held by an enemy guild and needs to have respawn points.

    • #cast teleport town - Teleport to the nearest town. Requires a bit of Neutral Casting and has a high casting time!

    • #recall - If you become stuck or fall off the map, you can use this.

    • #w <item name> - Displays stats about the specified item, weapon, armor, or spell. For example, #w longsword or #w meteor.

    • hello - Starts a conversation with nearby NPCs.

    • #createguild <GUILD NAME> - If you feel you’re sufficiently prepared, you can create your own guild for 2,000 coins. Remember that you need at least 6 members in it in order to capture any territories.

    • #recruit <PLAYER NAME> - A guild master can invite a player in to their guild.

  • If you have Vista, just drop the .exe into the Tribes folder and run it, you do not need to bother with patching.

  • Fuckin’ right.

Going to get my brother in on this!

  • uhm, does anyone know how you can test if a certain port is blocked or not? I don’t want to download and install this stuff just to find out I’m blocked.

Edit: Jesus christ, Vista removed telnet? thats fucking retarded.

  • Ive got tribes2, that used to be quite good, i wanna see the prequel, so i’ll join

  • If this doesn’t work out we’ll most likely play UO.

  • Sorry, can you expand on that please ?

  • The download link doesn’t work for me.
    Nevermind, fixed.

  • Really ? Well I just finished downloading it now. Ill be on in a few seconds so if anyone wants to join…

  • Ok.

  • -snip-

  • Its a shame that the RPG documentation isnt up ill find another one (hopefully)

  • For the love of fuck, I can’t find out a working say bind for the life of me. I’m guessing it needs “break” after it.

  • My keyboard doesn’t work when in the game, anyone know what’s wrong?

  • Broken installation file?  :(

  • How do I install?  I tried and it says I’m missing a file.

  • If you don’t want to enter an ip all the time, you can just delete all of the lines in your ServerPrefs.cs file and replace it with this:

This will replace the extinct Dynamix master server with the community-run one and you should be able to see all of the servers in your list.

  • Wow I’m not even getting a list of servers nor am I able to copy and paste anything into the developer console.
