Performance and Autoexecs

  • Many people have been complaining about performance lately, so to combat that lets post some performance autoexecs. I currently play on a lenovo T450s with 4 gigs of ram and a 2.2GHz i5 processor, which maintains a playable framerate.

    Here’s my autoexec: http://pastebin.com/9d7wSYyF

For reference, here is a decent steam guide that lists some performance improving console commands and explains how to use an autoexec: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=353154455

  • For those familiar with Chris’s TF2 configs, you can use those with Gmod as well. Keep in mind that they will usually drop the graphic settings as low as they can go, so things might not look pretty. However, depending on the map, I can typically have above or at 60 fps with 50 people on the server with multicore on and 30 fps without multicore on. (with hats off for both)

I will mention that the configs will disable ragdolls, which has a side effect on zombies/humans dying. Due to the fact Gmod doesn’t have force fading on player ragdolls/setting fading time, the configs will make the ragdolls sorta freeze in place. So you could be shooting a zombie and kill it, but it would be still standing up. It’s fake though.

The Force Fade/Set Fade Time commands in tf2 make it so the engine forcibly removes any player ragdoll depending on the time specified in the fade time command. The configs will set this to 0.01 or 0.1 meaning the player ragdoll is destroyed upon creation.

Console commands are cl_ragdoll_forcefade and cl_ragdoll_fade_time in TF2 if curious.

  • These commands won’t do much

  • gmod_mcore_test 1 is the only one that’s gonna do anything.

  • The engine simply isn’t designed for mass amounts of players on one server.

  • tl;dr
