With the earth taken over by an unknown alien force, a ragtag group of misfits have banded together as humanity’s final stand. Collaborating from parts unknown, the resistance group known as “NoXiousNet” serve as the last hope in stopping ADVENT’s complete domination of humanity.

    What the hell is this?
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is going to be an XCOM 2 campaign featuring the characters you know and love, from our very own community.

Join me, as I stream a playthrough with everyone’s favourite NoXiousNet’s heroes, accurately recreated into the resistance force based on their real or virtual selves. With the inevitability of death around every corner, every mission is sure to be tense and exciting.

    When will this be running?
This is most likely to run on weekends during the evenings (UK time). I will aim to submit a notification at least a day in advance to let people know of the exact time. This is going to be a full play through of the campaign, so every mission, in-game cutscene, and between mission administration is to be streamed.

The first stream is probably going to occur this coming weekend. All highlights and updates of the stream are to be posted in this thread, so make sure to check back every now and then.

What difficulty are you playing on?
This will be played on Commander – Ironman for standard difficulty, and for disabling the saving feature. That means all decisions, game states, and characters deaths are final; ramping up the tension during life and death scenarios.

What do you need from us?
I’m looking for people to provide details on how they would like their character to be portrayed by submitting character profiles. I am hoping to start running this campaign once I obtain a minimum of 10 characters. It is more than likely that people are going to die, so I will continue to scour through the thread in search of replacements when required.

    Who is eligible?
The guidelines to be accepted into the resistance are: you have to be a well-known player, and have correctly completed the template submission format below. It helps if you have me on Steam, as I can tweak any final changes to your character with your feedback.
Please provide posts in the following format.

    Reference Image
I need a reference image for customisation. This can either be real (Show me what you look like thread), or your fictional/virtual self. This will aid me in customising the characters facial features, hair, armour preferences, etc. You can be boring and request a balaclava or helmet to hide your face from the alien scum.

    Character Nickname
This is your Alias. This is what your character will be called in the campaign, and what will be inscribed on the wall of the fallen. The limit is 11 characters.

    Character Full Name
Optional, however highly recommended. This can either be real or fictional. People who do not submit this will be stuck with awful names for the campaign.

    Nationality
This will aid with voice selection. I’m sure everyone will enjoy hearing all derivations of the American English voices.

    Biography
This is a short summary of your character’s background. Ideally it should contain the country of origin and the birth date of your character (all XCOM soldiers have this). The biography will aid people getting emotionally attached to their character before they are inevitably killed by an Advent Stun Lancer.  See the other premade characters for an example.

    Preferred Class

    • Sharpshooter (Sniper Rife + Pistol)

    • Grenadier (Minigun + Grenade Launcher)

    • Ranger (Shotgun + Sword)

    • Specialist (Assault Rifle + Gremlin Droid)

    Sharpshooter
The standard sniper that everyone loves. The sharpshooter is lethal at long ranges with their deadly accurate sniper rifle and squad sight, easily picking off aliens before they even get close. Make no mistake, the sharpshooter is just as punishing at close range using a variety of pistol attacks to simultaneously attack multiple targets.

    Grenadier
Equipped with a heavy machine gun and grenade launcher, the grenadier serves as the team’s heavy support unit. The heavy machine gun can easily shred the armour off opponents, with the grenade launcher boosting the grenadier’s prowess at blasting cover and enemies alike.

    Ranger
Stealthy and quick, the ranger excels at close range combat. Being difficult to detect, rangers rely on splitting off, flanking the enemy, and dashing headfirst into combat. The shotgun makes short work of enemies at medium to close range, and their sword enables them to slash and dash their way through opponents.

    Specialist
Wielding an assault rifle that delivers decent accuracy at all ranges, the specialist provides tactical support to the entire squad. The Gremlin droid allows the specialist to provide cover bonuses to allies, heal wounded, revive allies, hack terminals, deliver static bursts, and cause robotic enemies to go haywire.

Note: Each class can specialise with skills. I will be selecting the skills based on what is needed at the time, and posting the character’s skill tree in the roster list.

    Armour Colour (Primary/Secondary/Weapon)
XCOM2 Features a wide variety of colours and armour patterns to customise the appearance of each character. Simply state your preferred colours, and any armour patterns you may want (I can aid with selecting armour patterns if requested).

    Miscellaneous Props
I will be using the reference images for selecting these, but I will be taking requests of headpieces from the base XCOM2 props and mods.  These include: headbands, bandanas, balaclavas, helmets, cigars, etc. I will try to include those props if they exist, otherwise I will use what I see fit.

    Miscellaneous Features
Any scars you may want, piercings, any tattoos (left/right arm and their colour). There’s a limited selection so I’ll try the closest thing to what you provide.

    Weapon Name
Should your character survive long enough to be promoted to your desired class, I can set their weapon name. The limit is 11 characters.

    [header]FAQ[/header]
Q: Why hasn’t my character appeared?
A: I’ve placed all of the characters in a pool with those automatically generated by the game. The option to recruit them into the resistance is random, but it is biased towards giving me those that I’ve custom made. I will aim to acquire as many characters from the community during the course of the campaign, however randoms will more than likely appear in the squad as temporary members.

Q: Why aren’t you using my character?
A: It’s difficult to field a well-balanced team, so it’s more than likely that your character may end up benched until they are needed (either through other characters injured or dying). If your character is a class that isn’t in abundance, it is more than likely I will pick them for the squad.

Q: Can you make my character bigger/smaller/shorter/taller?
A: Unfortunately XCOM 2 does not currently support customisation of this type. I can attempt to use the Armour customisation option to make them appear slightly puffier. Access to heavier armour is obtained later on, which will make them appear bulkier or slimmer. You’ll have to settle with “Normal-Sized” Nemo for now.

Q: Why can’t I pick Psi operative as a class?
A: This is still up in the air. As that class is unlocked much later in game, I will allow people to become Psi operatives if the Psi Lab is built.

Q: What the hell happened during that one combat round?
A: XCOM2 is riddled with bugs, which the developers are hopefully fixing. Some are unfair, but most are just humorous. You probably just witnessed one of them happening, so you’ll have to learn to live (or die) with it. I have no control over this, and cannot stop some bugs from occurring. I’ll try to make save backups before the stream begins just in case a few are game breaking.

Q: How the hell did that shot miss? The gun was in his mouth?
A: Welcome to XCOM. The calculations for hitting factor in: distance to the enemy, cover, soldier stats, weapon type, weapon mods, enemy stats and a lot of other stuff. Yes, your assault rifle was in that Sectoid’s mouth. However you must consider the positioning and movement of all characters/enemies as non-canonical if that makes sense. It’s best to assume every shot that isn’t 100% will miss.

Q: What are those weird delays and pauses?
A: XCOM 2 has a several optimisation issues to animations that the developers are working on. Expect weird delays to attacks and a bit of rubber banding to occur every now and then.

    Q: Are you using mods?
A: I’ll be using a few to help with soldier customisation, speeding up awkward delays, and to improve gameplay where necessary. I will be adding certain mods if people request them.

    Q: Will you provide commentary?
A: You’ll get to hear me describe every detail of the campaign, so buckle up. This ranges from the in game mechanics as we begin, to how hopeless the mission is progressing once the Codexs appear. I will relay my thoughts on decisions, and may look towards the chat for suggestions in tricky scenarios.

Q: My character died, will they make a return?
A: Soldiers are expendable. Equipment is not. Your character will live on through their heirlooms, passed down to the next unlucky recruit.

Q: Why aren’t you playing on Legend you coward?
A: I don’t fancy the inevitability of a team wipe if we somehow manage to survive until the first Sectopod. Also, your character will be used as Overwatch bait.

… And as for anything else, that’s XCOM for you.

    Epilogue
The finale’s stream started off with finishing the remaining campaign missions. A close encounter with Chryssalids endangered SparkyBio’s life, but the gods of luck gazed upon her that day. The Noxiousnet resistance finally made it’s assault on the ADVENT radio tower, a specialisd assault using only 3 soldiers; Takara, AC Elite and Benjy. After a failed infiltration at missions’ start, AC was badly wounded, and the outcome for the remainder of the mission looked grim. After carefully eliminating wandering patrols and reaching towards the terminal, ADVENT released an unpredictable assault; an attack on the commander himself. After narrowly escaping death from an ADVENT raid, the commander retreated to a resistance bunker with a new uplink connection, and the radio tower mission resumed. After finally accessing the terminal, the first phase of the finale was complete, and the gears for the second phase were set in motion.

The stream concluded in Mission Leviathan, with the NoXiousNet resistance assailing into the heart of the alien headquarters. The initial gauntlet was a slow drag meant for faltering supplies, and a double Sectopod spawn towards the end made the outcome look bleak. After carefully planning an attack, and using the remainder of the explosives, the pod was eliminated before a death occured. Upon reaching the final hallway, it was then that ADVENT unleashed it’s last line of defense; a continuous attack on the commanders connection. During the prolonged attack, the commander breached passed the aliens’ onslaught, and the resistance entered the chamber for the final battle.

The 3 alien avatars teleported into the room with unending hordes of aliens at their beck and call. Unknown to them, the NoXiousNet resistance had plenty of experience in fighting large waves of enemies, and so the 8 squad members faced the collective of the most powereful alien forces. With the majority of the squad keeping the teleporting pods in check, Transaction managed to score an execution on the first lone avatar, sending the second one into battle. Benjy, proving to live up to his savage nature, scored an impossibly low chance, critical head-shot through a reinforced pillar, eliminating the second avatar. It was then, that the enemies numbers grew exponentially with more legions of aliens, and the team needed to finish off the final avatar quickly. A combined focus attack from each team member caused the avatar to teleport around, retreating to the far side of the room, and out of the range of all but one team member. The Darker One, powered by the hopes and dreams of the fallen, grappled to a vantage point, and was granted the ability to fire at the avatar. With a final shot from his mighty “KILL HE” , the aliens’ plans were abolished, and the first NoXCOM campaign was a success.

    Comments
Phew! So that was a pretty good campaign. There were moments when things were going reasonably well, but XCOM reminded us that any small mistakes could have drastic consequences. Luckily, other than the losses of Cheepo and Haerts in the second stream, there were no other casualties.

I’d like to thank everyone for tuning into the streams, and I’m announcing that I will be running a second campaign, with  new faces in the squad on the Legendary - Ironman difficulty. This will be a campaign with double aliens and more nasty stuff, so expect an announcement soon.

In the meantime, if you have any comments, suggestions or mods you’d like to see, please post them below. The next campaign will have more bloodshed, more deaths, and might even fail after the first few missions!
