Pedobear Escape 2 - fixed up and improved



  • Decided to fix up this gamemode and add some new features. Here’s a run down. Major changes in bold:

    • Fixed all crashes. Game no longer crashes within 2 minutes of starting.
    • Fixed exploit that allowed you to rejoin the game after losing.
    • Enemies now use pathfinding instead of just running straight after whoever is closest and ramming in to walls. Now they pick the closest PATH to an enemy. Enemies are smarter and circle strafing large groups of them infinitely won’t save you. Allows much more complicated maps than big circles with reddit memes on the wall.
    • Major recoding of pretty much everything. The original was pretty screwy and poorly coded. Everything in general “just works”.
    • Added ability for different enemies to show up besides pedobear.
    • Third person camera.
    • Morphed player models.
    • Fixed lag from players joining without their models being precached.
    • New player animations.
    • Some previously useless pickups are now useful. Bananas are probably death if there’s an enemy near you.
    • Fixed music not working, stopping, restarting randomly, etc.

    It’s up now.

  • Also take the opportunity to suggest maps. It’s pretty open to what can be used. Any game type or whatever works. I think fy_ maps are a good example. There’s stipulations though:

    • Can’t have ladders taller than 2 players. They don’t go up them very well. They’ll jump at you but anything tall isn’t going to work.
    • Can’t have rooms only accessible by vents/crouching IF a player spawns in that room. They don’t crouch. Players don’t either so ignore this stipulation if that room has other entrances or no spawn points are in that room.
    • Can’t have stuff to hide on top of. You can’t jump (but you can be knocked up) and they will try to jump up over things but it doesn’t always work.
    • Can’t have secrets. Pretty self explanatory. They aren’t smart enough to use teleporters. They are smart enough to break doors though.

  • I’d like to see waves with increasingly difficult enemies (e.g. piccolos begin round 3, woodchippers round 10). If players survive, they should be rewarded with the ability to choose small perks to help them next round.



  • What entities are required to make a fully functional map?

    Do the enemies use nextbot nav meshes or npc nodes?

    Is there a way for a mapper to set the enemy texture or would that just be overriding the pedobear?

    Is it worth testing the map on the public mod available?



  • info_player_start: player spawn
    pb_spawn: enemy spawn
    pb_powerup: powerup spawn (but uses info_player_start if none exist)

    nav meshes. Same as CS:GO or TF2. You don’t need to generate them unless you want to manually edit them yourself.

    no but I can make an entity to override sprites if you have a theme.

    no, it’s totally broken and doesn’t use navigation or nodes.



  • krusty krab should be removed/fixed, since people can just camp inside the kitchen because pedobears can’t go through the door.



  • It’s not with the map, something happened over the week where they have difficulty fitting in many areas throughout all the maps. Game is nearly broken aside from the completely open maps.

  • What about suggesting things such as additional pursuer models? I’ve heard people requesting Bill Cosby and for some random ass reason, Sloth from “The Goonies.”

    Great game mode by the way, it’s the most fun I’ve had in a videogame in probably three months.

    EDIT: Also, as most people have already seen, there’s an exploit in Krusty Krab where you use a timebomb to get on top of the wall.
