Dota 2 -> NoX -> Teamplay

  • Hello everyone,

A physics library for Dota 2 was recently released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxBxQIcEMI8
    It’s Guthub link: https://github.com/bmddota/barebones

This allows for some interesting gameplay elements, most obvious is homing projectiles for buffs.

Is anyone interested in a public github NoX project?  It wouldn’t necessarily need to be limited to this community since NoX has a large cult following.

The short term goal is implementing solid parts of classic NoX that fit well into the Dota 2 engine.  However, once Source 2 is released, the framework might very well transition into a FPS/Teamplay style setup.  With the future of the Vive/Lighthouse/VR and GabeN’s goals for the creation of all things, the sky is really the limit.

What do you think? Anyone interested in collaborating in Source 2?

  • @Ed640:

Just remake rtp into an rts, keep all the lore but make it something like warcraft 3 or one of the warhammers, maybe even just make a custom map in dota2 with custom heroes to act as the classes.

I didn’t think anyone would actually want to do something like that.

Grab a fork and have at it. Jet doesn’t care about it anymore.

    Source 2

oh god what are you doing?

Building it from scratch in either of those has always been an option and I would be interested if anyone was working on something in them.

However, I think Source 2 could be an alternative path that is worth considering.  Dota 2 is already a solid RTS with a year of modding documentation built up.  It has a strong playerbase and a promising future.  Cloning other RTS’s isn’t a taboo concept and modifying in parts of NoX is a much smaller first step.

  • And a giant leap when  you actually put it in an engine and not a dota2 mod.

  • the only people who I think would be interested in this is bluefrog and sam, but it’s unlikely as bluefrog rarely shows up anymore.

  • Why would you ever think about downloading unity5 when you got unreal4?
    unity
    unreal
and that’s only visuals. unreal got way supperior editors/ui.

  • I was working with Extreme56 on a project called Project Spellgame that was supposed to be a spiritual sequel to Teamplay using all new tricks I’ve made like global dynamic lighting, we had the core gameplay working but working with Source was proven more of a burden than it was worth, the project is on hold for now and I’ll eventually hand all my assets for jetboom’s game once I find time to repack everything

    Here’s the new dragoon class

one runs on toasters, the other one toasts your PC.

Unity might not have fantastic AAA shit out of the box but it is more than capable of it, despite what you typically see made for it.
