[Released] eft_aether_b1

  • Hi Guys, I’m back with a more simplistic “Water-Platformer,” EFT_Aether, including more collab with dissident [heh]

The initial design was made by Madden, but things were definitely changed during development
    Initial Design: [[url=https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1WSApgZEy3PhANBhNzS5y43n1WqjGbOcP-hhzXmdxKzI/edit?pli=1]https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1WSApgZEy3PhANBhNzS5y43n1WqjGbOcP-hhzXmdxKzI/edit?pli=1]

Goals are a bit different this time around, in order to score the goals are facing vertically in the buildings so you must throw upwards in order to score.

All in all, despite this not being as intense as Space Jump or BB-Dash it still brings good variety to the EFT server, as more of a simplistic, clean Greek styled map.

Comes with Music as always although i’m not sure if its the most fitting, I’m sure it will be when people are actually crashing into each-other >.<
Now Benjy, before you even comment regarding it, I did go to convert the music to OGG but it increased the filesize by 500kbs so I kept it MP3.

Downloads for Original VMF and BSP: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ptvr37mq81y8jgq/AABVlZlX2QHTP_DOBLwv1kYCa?dl=0

Note: Three materials managed to not get pakked into the BSP so dissident will hopefully upload the corrected version somewhere below as well as changing the waterball timer to 20 seconds instead of 15 seconds

Map Layout + Pictures (Yes that’s a hand-signature, gotta stay classy):

For the same quality OGG compression is higher. Use a lower bitrate. The music is weird and doesn’t go with the game style.

  • The music sounds like something out of some Arabian desert village.  Based on the visual theme you’re going for, I’d say something with some light ambience, very ethereal.

  • Yeah, it was kinda hard to find greek music that didn’t sound like either a trading zone or a boss fight, ill find something else later today when I get the chance (Ill try and convert to OGG this time.) Anything regarding the gameplay/visuals? I tried to keep it simple but hopefully its still a good variation of gameplay.

I haven’t had the chance to test gameplay, visuals are fine but I’d suggest adding stone curbs so the transition from grass to edge isn’t so apparent. I’d also suggest changing the waterball structures as they looks to similar to the score zones.

i’d go with no music myself, that shit just gets annoying

I have some ambient wind so I can actually use that.

a little more brushwork can easily be done i’m a little lazy right now maybe in a later version

It’s only 20 brushes duplicated and flipped on each axis.

    Also:

    @Benjy:

I’d also suggest changing the waterball structures as they looks too similar to the score zones.

  • Ok, will do.

  • And you didn’t bother asking the ONLY greek nox member for music… lol

  • @Donny:

    That’s how I read that.
What type of music are you thinking of that’d fit?

  • I’d have to play it first to see what music fits aesthetically best. I believe that a music from a greek cartoon with ancient gods would be just fine though, and i know which one to search for. I’ll edit this with an update when i find something.

Cool, Ill try and implement whatever you find, but I’ve already lost all patience with this map–
If you can’t find what you’re looking for I’ll just stick with the wave ambiance.
Despite, these pictures being a little outdated, I think the gameplay should be fairly fun regardless.

  • Oh and I have an idea,
Add a Gyro, have it rotating, and when the ball/user touches it, they get a blitz ball.

  • I tried to make the outlines but it was too hard to make it perfect with the circles so i scrapped them, as it looks fine as is.
I did however redo the waterball temples– They look much better now
The Music was simply changed to wave ambiance.

The ground still looks half-arsed and there’s misaligned textures as shown above but I’ve put it in.
