Rocksmith 2014

  • Not sure if everyone already knows about it, but for those who don’t…
Rocksmith 2014 is pretty much like guitar hero, except you play it with an actual guitar. Also doubles as a teaching tool that helps learn new techniques and adjusts difficulty based on your skill. Works with electric and semielectric guitars and bass guitars.

Also has a lot of DLC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-91COi15fzk

    I do like guitars.

  • The difference between playing real guitar and guitar hero/rock band is you dont need to actually look at the piece of plastic you are playing but with a real guitar you would unless you were pretty good so how does Rocksmith help teach you if you have to stare at a screen to play?

It has a lot more than just songs, there’s a list of lessons to follow along with as well as the technique minigames. Also has things like the riff repeater that lets you slow down a particular section of a song and speed up as you get better. You’re not really supposed to look at the fretboard, eventually you get a feel for where all the points on it are.

I would assume that they start you off with songs using two or three strings and requiring little to no neck movement so there’s no reason to look.

Pretty much, the way it works is if you select beginner, you start off playing simple notes and open strings in a sort of simplified version of the song. As you get better the game starts throwing harder chords and things like tremolo at you. The videos I posted are at 100% difficulty. You can play any song at beginner difficulty, but it will be very simplified and some parts are omitted altogether. It also adjusts certain sections based on how hard they actually are. So for instance, some songs will give you sections at their hardest difficulty even at like 20% mastery because they aren’t very complex and then switch back to 20% difficulty.

Here’s one of the minigames, this one helps practice switching strings and frets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jd6LWpZ9iM
And here’s one for chords. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWPKVXpauy0
They have lots of others for things like bends, harmonics, etc.

  • I played the first one and hated the way notes would end up popping in out of nowhere. Shit progression system. Note detection was pretty bad too.

Would really benefit from having tabs to look at.

I don’t see why anyone would actually choose rocksmith over using tabs to learn guitar or play a song but I guess the ingame amps have some use.

I had an issue where the game would think I was a fret higher than I was on the low E string. Thought it was a technical error, turned out I was just holding it too hard. Not gonna rule out possible technical issues with some guitars but my stratocaster works fine with 2014.

Also not sure if it was included in the original since I didn’t play it, but 2014 does have a chord library.
