Black Friday/Cyber Monday Thread

  • Let’s post good deals on PC parts and peripherals we stumble upon. I’m building a new computer and I see a lot of nice shit that I want but can’t afford right now. I’m using logical increments as a guide, looking at the excellent tier if anyone has suggestions to alternative parts on sale around that performance.

Found this huge SSD, the dozen or so reviews it has suggests it’s decent and it’s going at an ok price (free shipping too btw). Newegg has it on daily deals but it’s price hasn’t changed for 2 days: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167192

I’ve had this for a while. While the smoothness and refresh rate all works, It’s the low end 120+ hz monitor you can get. The colors are GOD-AWFUL and no profiles, tweaking, etc. can save it. The benq one is a lot more expensive but you get the same thing with the nice colors.

Get it if you want but plan to use your old monitor for anything but games that can be played above 60 fps.

Shit I was gonna get this one and try playing all those modern games my old shitty PC couldn’t run with high fps and good colors. I dont have enough dough for the benq though so here’s to hoping it’s at least a little better than my old shit hanns g hz201hpb.

  • I have the 144hz benq 24xl11t which is basically the same as the 24XL20T. Same TN panel but fewer features like extra hdmi slots and a quick profile switching feature. Never used the Asus,  but I know I’m not that disappointed in the colours.

    Quick run down:

I prefer 120hz/144hz than higher res for games,  90dpi which is probably most people’s absolute limit.

Nice colours and surprisingly good for a TN panel,  but overall not great. If you’re looking for exceptional colour accuracy and production then you want an IPS monitor with bad motion.  You have to spend about an hour adjusting icc profiles and monitor settings to get the benq looking good / acceptable.

Worth what I paid for it.  £220/$360. £183/$287 without tax.

  • I’ve got a shitty Intel Bay Trail tablet on a weeklong sale in a chinese site for 130 USD

  • If you can, try to find a classic Dell 2408wfp.  They’re sill hot shit.

My second (old) monitor is a viewsonic vx2640w. It’s really old but the colors are fantastic for a TN. Think it’s 1ms or 2ms response too.

  • Is response time really THAT noticeable?

  • $60 (20 bucks off) 1866 RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231550&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction--na--na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10440897&PID=5961731&SID=0

also im trying to find a good PCIe wireless* network adapter that will give me good performance for low as possible price if anyone has any recommendations. I don’t stream just play video games and watch shit.

  • Whatever network adapter comes with the motherboard. unless you pull 1gb.

  • The network adapter that came with my mobo sucks despite the fact that it was basically the reason I got that version of the board. I’ve just been using some $25 Blekin USB adapter which works perfectly fine if you plug it into a USB port with stable power.

  • Someone post it if they can find it:

-8 port gigabit unmanaged switch with discount
-HDDs with discount, preferably under $40 (at or above 320 GB)
-400 watt or more power supply for $30-$50
-A nice, quiet, low profile case micro-ATX

    I’m still looking.

  • @CMasta:

Yes. Going from a 60hz monitor with 8ms gtg response time to a 120hz monitor with 2ms gtg is noticeable from the moment you first move your mouse on the desktop.

Even disregarding the refresh rate, My 8ms IPS monitor looks TERRIBLE for any movement compared to most other monitors with 5ms or lower. I really can’t state that enough.

  • I’m feeling nigger rich so I might have to snag one of those 2ms monitors then.

I have two 2.5" 5400rpm hard drives, 500 GB and 750 GB that I could send you. They’ve been sitting in storage.
