  • An Extreme Football Throwdown map, and my first one.

    This map goes for more of a lost-in-time like scenery. In this map, you are a small football player, on a large poker table. Find different strategies to use to your advantage. This also includes some sweet color correction, and relaxing music to ram your enemies into darkness.  8)

    It’s not bad for a first map. Maybe add a 3D skybox scaled so that it looks like you’re in a bar or casino?

    Edit: Increase the texture scale on the glass textures so the seams aren’t visible or too obvious.

    The background music, and some extra textures are mostly what is taking up so much space. Without custom content included in the map, the map is around 2mb.

    Yeah, the color correction looks a little off from the scene. This was, as you mentioned, my first time using color correction, I thought it would look nice at first, but now I see it looks odd. Any suggestions on how the color correction should look?

    Right now, the map is sealed by pure black textured walls. The original idea was to have a more lost-in-time environment, or a scene in someone’s imagination, where things are floating about in empty space. I will most likely be making a sky box sometime in the future, making more of a casino/bar environment.



  • Try using the ogg vorbis sound format so you may lower the file size, or re-think the custom content.

    I don’t optimize music.

    OGG doesn’t like triggering throuigh maps, I use MP3’s at the multiple of 11025; source doesn’t break it. Compresses OK.

    Anyway the map is ugly, full bright, and blue.

    Agreed, use black skybox with light_environment to light the whole place evenly, I tend to find it looks nice if you find the right color combonation.



  • Add custom textures for cards,dice. Decals for table( to make it poker table).
    Add card pack, 1-2 bottles, glasses, handwatch etc. Remove 3 cigarettes 1 ashtray(or move it somewhere else).
    Add 3d skybox of small house(like in dr_poker). In 3d skybox create huge lightbulp ontop of that table and use it as “sun” for global lightning.
    Make oval table?



  • Update: I’ve changed the music, and reduced the music’s file size significantly, making the map around 15mb now. I’m working on lighting, changing the table’s texture, and I removed the ugly color correction.

    I’ve changed the texture of the table and chairs. Lighting has now been added, and built cube maps to the level.
    The total map size is now 20.4MB, including two new musics, one that plays during the round, and a short one that plays when a team scores.
    I will be fixing the cigarettes, as well as adding some more aesthetics around the map. (Wine glasses, a giant watch on the table, etc.)



  • For small aesthetic touch-ups, you could rotate some textures so the wood appears to bend around the table instead of appearing as though a bunch of 2x4s were glued together and Hack-sawed into a circle.

    The same could be done to those chairs on the top as well.

    EDIT:  Don’t be to expand a texture that is at a distance.  It looks shitty if it is a tile that repeats infinitely.  Expanding the texture on the chair couldn’t hurt.



  • 20MB still seems an overkill for an ugly map
