Unreal Tournament

  • So Epic held a Twitch.TV broadcast [[url=http://www.twitch.tv/unrealengine/b/526981487]part1] [[url=http://www.twitch.tv/unrealengine/b/526988150]part2] announcing the start of the development of the next unreal tournament game:

    • The last in the series, but with the intention of continuously building on top of this one

    • Free but not using the conventional “Free-to-Play” scheme, just free.

    • Community Developers with a UE4 subscription can pitch into design of the game at any stage of the development

    • It’s up to the modding community if they want to charge for their mods.

      • Since the marketplace isn’t going to be available for it until a while after initial release, the majority of mods will be free and likely to continue being so

Some of us have our roots in the UT series, and the engine it’s built on is one of my favourites to work with but am unsure of this “crowdsourcing” setup. I really want to see a popular unreal tournament because in that respect UT3 let me down.

This will probably result in everybody charging for mods.

  • I can see so many people making quick bucks on shit mods.

  • Hopefully they end up with an engine that lets developers make PC games that don’t feel like bad ports.

  • Honestly might have been one of the better ways they could have gone about making the next UT. Glad they’re doing it this way, let’s hope it turns out alright.

We used to fix games with mods, now they don’t even develop the game and other people pay to do so.

Sounds like Garry’s Mod right now
