Place a tighter leash on people who undermine their positions as Heads/Sec/AI

  • There’s need to be a more bolder statement to people who are breaking the rules.  It’s getting to the point where every round people have this bizarre assumption that since they are in a position of power that they have a right to do anything they please include flat out murder people. It’s chasing people away and every other week the player count gets smaller and smaller due to a select number of people who haven’t been warned, punished, or banned for their behavior. I understand Nox is a lot lighter in terms of rules then other servers, and that’s great, it’s the reason why I play on it. But when even the light amount of rules placed on the server are not even followed, almost every round turns to complete shit.

    AI/Borgs:

There are AI’s claiming that murdering human antagonist is valid since they aren’t human. After the round, they then lie further by claiming they read the rules despite it saying that otherwise that antagonist are still considered humans. Borgs should lock down and attempt to subdue non-ling traitors. They should never attempt to outright murder them unless their laws have been modified to allow such.

AI’s and their borgs allowing and permitting the death of others under the basis of “Oh I didn’t like that guy”. AI is not one to give an opinion to ignore his laws unless they’ve been modified or erased.

Borgs ignoring dieing humans. A bomb blows up and a couple of humans try to escape, some become conscious and fall the ground. A sec borg will waltz by and stun someone in front of them under the basis that he’s in the way. Borg then leaves the area leaving everyone to die despite being on default law settings. Engineering borgs will ignore orders and use their abilities to grief or play sandbox outside the station. While yes, these borgs are capable of being blown up or locked down for disobeying their laws, that requires a competent head to do so…

    Heads/Sec:

Wondering off and abandoning their post for long periods of time to do something that has nothing to do with their job. Some go braindead at the start of the round possibly because of lack of traitor status. If you plan to play a head, make sure you understand that the game needs you. Wish to quit? Then resign and hand over your job to a likely candidate. Something like a Chief Engineer standing around medbay to get space lube or using a space suit to bust into armory while the singularity hasn’t been set up isn’t good.

Taking large amounts of equipment to create an array of weapons tooth and nail in order to kill or grief others. Leaving equipment scarcer for the crew members that require them.

Heads get in a standstill with someone just to murder them. Yes, it’s annoying that a grey shirt tries to breaks in. If it happens, ask a security officer to arrest him or get a flash and some wiring to knock them out restrain them. Each Head should have a flash to take care of intruders.  Only if you know your life is at risk and that person intents on murdering you should you strike back to at least make them unconscious. But watching a head beat the shit out of someone, then kill another guy that is coming to their rescue and spacing them both is not what a head should be doing.

The “I AM THE LAW!” mentality the security follow under. General assumption that murdering and robbing others is perfectly fine since they are the security force on the station.

Revolution rounds tend to be the worse. If there is a security force at all, it usually turns into “Kill anyone who isn’t security to end the round as soon as possible” which goes against the entire point of implants even when the revs are in low numbers.

The “Kill the clown at the start of the round” issue is another concern. Yes, clowns aren’t human, however according to the rules they are “loosely” protected by the law. Meaning they may not have rights, but they still must be protected from harm or death. Watching a HOP officer barge out of his office at the beginning of the round and then head straight to the bar to kill the clown with an excuse of “He’s the clown he deserves to die” shouldn’t be acceptable.

Competent AI’s being considered rogue for vigorously staying true to the laws given to them. Refusing access to an unauthorized individual and then being accused of being rogue. Watching a HOP not get his way for murdering someone out right and usually upon false pretenses and then claiming the AI is rogue for trying to dismiss harm.

I could go on. If anyone wishes to add to this please do so. But it’s something that needs to be properly addressed.

  • AIs can be the worst they act malf/law 0 and fill station with plasma and start fires end round turns out they had default laws. No sec usually revert to Rookie dealing street justice on antag or dick crew member acting antag. I recall for clown is to be treated as a slightly normal crew member till he does something wrong or something unfunny.

  • all the shit you listed (except for the clown part, its fine the way it is now) would make an admin take action if you reported it. the problem is that when there arent any admins on then people (especially heads/ai/borgs/sec) do whatever they damn well please, and usually grief. ever since zetanor redevised the space brig section by ignoring minor offenses (such as killing…), nothing can be done about those griefers.

  • Ever tried to prevent the crew from murdering someone as AI which means you can neither push them away nor can you actually taze or in any other way physically prevent them from hurting the person of their desire and usually by the time you notice its already too late to separate them in different rooms and if you somehow manage to do that they will hack in anyway.
Its a struggle you cannot win. Also don’t get too attached to the crew as you are on your own most of the time or your alignment and loyality can easily be shifted in any direction.
And in the end the person you protect is usually someone who will probably kill someone else if left unchecked. Actually trying to protect EVERY human on the station is hell and waaay out of whats physically possible for any amount of cyborgs and AIs on the station unless you apply no fun and get banned for locking everyone in their rooms till they go braindead.

The only real problem is that the AI is basically that one assistant nobody ever checks on. You can observe and spy on everyone and nobody would notice, you can do mayor changes to the station’s settings in power and atmospherics and even let doors ‘break’ in order to manipulate the movement of crewmembers. People wont notice that you have done anything at all if done right.
And of course nobody but admins can actually check if the AI is a traitor or not as it can be turned antagonist at any given moment by anyone stupid enough to modify asimov.

  • you guys have no idea how many HoP’s I job ban for ignoring their desk and pretending to be security.

  • Here is the reason why security end having to kill most people:
1: Security sees an assistant with an item they shouldn’t have
    2: Security stuns/arrests the assistant
3: Assistant spend the next 5 mins bitching about shitcuirty and about how his stuff was stolen
4: Assistant gets released after doing a reasonable amount of time in the brig.
5: Assistant tools up with weapons and some way to slip the the security (usually just water)
6: Assistant attacks the security office and kills him

Don’t want to be killed by security? Don’t give them a reason to.

    Rather:

    1. Try to double-window the front of security, get tazed by the HoS and friends who is asking you why you’re vanadlizing the brig.
    2. Explain yourself, they don’t belive it and call an engineer to fix the vandalized windows infront of the brig.
    3. Get beaten by someone, defend yourself by beating them, security tases, cuffs, pulls you away without question, usually leading to you getting beat to death with an egun that the warden stole while you’re buckle cuffed to a bed.

well when all the other sec are retards and you are the only one who knows what to do while the other sec are trying to tase you and let your prisoners loose, what do you do? you beat the shit out of them until they learn

    greytide is executable.

  • Except you were not grey tiding, you were trying to help the place.

  • Administrators

Surely if you go to a federal prison and start building stuff outside of the wall to fortify it, they’ll immediately assume that you’re trying to help.

    Communication goes a long way.

This is a 2d spessman game, not Alcatraz

    you’re an assistant.
    outside of the brig.
yeah, that sounds like greytide to me, you could just do normal assistant shit, like go slip some people until you get brutally murdered, but hanging around the brig and attempting to do things with the windows usually ends up bad.

  • Someone with a grey shirt stands outside the brig for longer than 3 seconds.
shoot him through the window with your laser because he’s trying to overtake the station.

  • But what if your just visiting an inmate and totally not planning on busting him out with that stolen fire ax of yours?

  • @Kirbyroth:

But what if your just visiting an inmate and totally not planning on busting him out with that stolen fire ax of yours?

Never happens. Nobody ever visits prisoners. And Security wont let that happen.

Then hide the axe before you do. I always store stuff that I assume will be taken away from me soon.
There are tons of places in the station where you can hide your loot.

  • @Oxki:

    you’re an assistant.
    outside of the brig.
yeah, that sounds like greytide to me

miners not at mining stations bad job 0/10 would jobban again

What? That is like saying you can’t have a friendly nuclear commando! You lack in faith, child.

  • hah Friendly nuke commando that be the day
