How to deal with bans and punishments on NoX Station

  • This guide was made to ensure most of the admins would know what they are doing.  Some of you are banning people for excessive amounts of time. The only time you should permaban someone is if they’re continuously being shit (check notes) or they outright tell you that they’re a griefer/epic troll from some other server/or ask to be banned.  Also, feel free to corgi people instead of permabanning them.

    The Five General Rules:

Rule 1. Being an administrator means you’re prone to alot of hate.  Banning someone for admin disrespect (this has never happened as I can tell) will instantly get your admin removed. Never ban anyone for admin disrespect.  However, if they’re being a complete shithead, feel free to fuck with them.

Rule 2. Always try to do everything in your ability to make the player that was griefed happy, without banning the griefer.  An example of this would be a guy getting killed by Jimbob420 (who is not an antagonist, and was not acting in self-defense) the option to either clone him, or have -his- round ruined.

Rule 3. Use jobbans.  If someone bombs the shuttle, jobban them, unless it’s a station-wide bombing (which would probably deserve a two-three day ban, as this would cause atmospherics to lag the entire server.) If they continue to do it by using the HoP, continuously increase their ban time for each offense. Jobbans truly aren’t used enough.

Rule 4. Mass murder without being an antagonist is very annoying.  They’ve already griefed the station well enough, so there’s really no point in asking for redemption (unless they actually have a reason to do this).  Ban them for 60 minutes for every person they’ve killed.

Rule 5. People who join the server as a head role and simply leave should be jobbanned.  People who use certain jobs to just act like a shit (i.e. chemist decides to take the syringe gun and goes around using chloral hydrate on people to steal their shit, or an engineer who uses his massive amount of equipment to break into the armory without a real reason.)

Generally, you can always ask the griefer to go through a redemption phase, or be punished for their actions.  Always give them an option, unless, as stated above, they’re just not here to play.  Permabans shouldn’t be handed out automatically, and if they’re willing to appeal their ban, it is good practice to reduce their ban.  Also, you guys need to use the corgi program more often.  Note that anyone playing a monkey or clown is exempt from most rules, and takara is free (and recommended) to kill.

  • I’m just adding some smaller stuff that should already be known but for whatever reason is happening anyway.

    Footnotes Edition:

Don’t interfere directly with antags or people dealing with antags in a round: I got a complaint about an admin that revived a few cultists because the one killing them didn’t get express permission to execute them. They. Are. Antagonists. They know what’s up when they play as one. If they get caught and get killed, that’s too bad. Nothing in that situation required an admin.
