[WIP] eft_six_feet_under



  • I’ve worked on this map for a week, at this point I can say that I’ll follow through with its completion. I’ve redone the entire map about three times during the week, which is why much is yet undone.

    To use, place in the steamapps/common directory and start up Half Life 2: Episode 2.

    This will be my first published map, though before this I have created test maps that I never released.

    Requires Episode 1 and 2 of the Half-Life series

    The general concept of this map when complete is as follows: Located on a cliff, ascending and descending waterfalls on either side of the river, located in the mountain’s woods.

    Quite frankly, I’ve posted this thread for suggestions on what to add, as I’m willing to spend as much time as there is and go into whatever detail necessary to make this map what it needs to be.

    -Yet to be added/fixed-

    • Being able to walk on the water’s surface
    • Ascending waterfall on nearest side of the bridge, descending fall on the farthest side.
    • Forestry
    • Goal, powerups, spawns
    • Correct light placement
    • Soundscapes
    • Brushes
    • Bridge railings
    • Decals

  • Hey, EFT mapping is getting popular :D
    Anyways it looks nice but screenshots are limited (don’t see goals/spawns etc)
    The map does end abruptly after the bridge but i know what that’s like, sadly I don’t have EP1 or EP2 so that would be a problem for me.
    Pakrat is easy to use so that’s that, i would make the name look like this though: eft_sixfeetunder_b1 (for beta version 1)
    Also I would make the lights on that little bridge a light spot will do and it will boost the lighting to a perfect level ;)

    I’m supporting anyone who is making an effort for EFT so i give a thumbs up :D

    We don’t accept maps using ep 1 and 2 content unless its pakrated into the map since most people don’t have those games.

    Handegg uses EP2 (As far as I know), plus serriously anyone who doesn’t own episode 2 right now during the steam sales should be slapped in the face. Its cheap enough to even buy it with steam trading card selling.

    Ignoring the lack of lights it looks good, though I would suggest use of invisible/clip brushes to make sure people can’t get stuck on rocks (like albino _ _) and you can use it for curbs and such or if you add any stairs so you can avoid those annoying moments like in sky step where you jump and hit a tiny lip and lose all momentum.

    You could add say a small wooden dock to each side for canal boats if you wanted.



  • I agree with Neko but you cant get everyone to buy EP1 and EP2 so i would just pakrat the textures in, although it might increase file size i would rather download an extra 20mb or so than spend 8 bucks on a game.



  • Alright, I’ve pakratted it in its current state, and its well around 30 megs. Before I’m done, it might end up being over 60. Is there any way to compress it / make it a smaller download? I’m looking to maintain a balance between detail and file size.

    • Also, there seems to be a bug in my map where, if I punch/get punched or win in a powerstruggle, it immediately kills the bot, and he explodes into a red mist.

    I put it in a demo file, it would be nice to know why this is happening.



  • My only guess is for it to put into a .zip or .rar file that should cut the filesize in half ill download it when you upload it and take a look @ your glitch.

    Use 7zip, compress as a .bz2



  • Updated previous post with the current state of the map I used in the demo.



  • The map has a really good atmosphere but it ends somewhat abruptly at both ends of the map– i’m taking this as your not finished with the map itself because you don’t even have goals or team spawns.
    As for your issue with the bots dying instantly I would ask Jetboom.



  • There’s nothing in the gamemode that makes  red mist so delete your addons.



  • I deleted my addons, and the problem still occurs. Anything else I could try?



  • The large map size is just lighting, I can help you cut it down sometime. Hammer likes to default the light grid to be high detailed so it eats up space when most areas don’t actually need all that detail.

    IE if you have a large skyscraper or a wall that’s generally all dark/bright you don’t need a dense grid setting. As a point of reference most of my eft map is 32 and the outer walls are 64 plus in places you dont see often like under platforms.



  • I don’t play Half life 2 episodes, Yes slap me in the face if you want. But I sadly just don’t want to buy $16 worth of games, plus…

  • Cloud he pakratted the files in so you DONT need hl2 ep1 or ep2 anymore since the textures/props (except 1 little rock’s texture is missing)
    are included in the download.

  • Cloudonian, there is something you gotta know everything mechanical and electronic is technically repairable…
    Sorry to say but I’ve searched the issue and got nothing-- maybe your not using the latest .fgd?
    I am legitimately dumbfounded by this issue.
