Invasion game mode.



  • The other night an admin did an event with some combine invasion type game. I found it pretty fun and it gave me an idea for a new game type. I thought we could have a game mode where Syndicate declare war on Nanotasen and invade the station or something. I figured it could be a game mode that will only be played if there are 60+ players. When the game first starts there would be 12 players chosen at random to be the syndicate, and 5 chosen to be elite security officers (for balance). There would be an announcement by centcomm that an invading force is coming and the station would have 10 minutes to prepare (order guns, implants, covert civilians to security, ect.) and the syndicate could prepare to.

    There would be objectives for the syndicate to complete, such as assassinate/capture the captain, kill all heads, card the AI, destroy the engine, and destroy R&D. For crew to win they would have to successfully either fiend off the invasion or get the captain off the station alive.

    Syndicate would be broken up into two squads, each with a team leader, and their own ship, which would dock on opposite sides of the station when the invasions begin. The squad leader would have slightly better armor than the rest of his squad and carry decent weapons. Then there would be a hacker, sapper, advanced weapons specialist, and two basic soldiers. The hacker would have gear needed to get access to anywhere in the station and card the AI and other jobs he might need to do. Sapper would have a combat shotgun, flamethrower, C4, bombs, and fire grenades (bombs for destroying R&D and engine). Advanced weapons specialist could have an advanced energy gun, EMP grenades, and that rifle nuke ops get for taking out borgs. Basic soldiers would have the CMR-20 and other gear that really isn’t too special.

    Now I also had an idea, since the syndicate would probably be highly outnumbered, that they could capture people and convert them using special implants. The implants would only work if the person wasn’t loyalty implanted already. The syndicate ships should also have cloners and autolathes to make gear for new soldiers, kind of like the combine event we did. I think this game mode would be fun if implemented right and balanced out so no one side is two OP, and I think would make for interesting, action packed games that would be fun for the whole server since I know alot of us sit around and hope we get antag so we can have a little bit of fun.

    Please take this serious guys and give me any input, thoughts and suggestions you have so we might be able to make this happen.

  • Seems interesting but 60+ players feels like too much, maybe 40+ or 50+ players.



  • I suggested 60 since 12 syndicate would spawn on the team. I guess 50 would be alright but that would mean 1/5 of the server would be antags at the start.



  • 12 vrs the crew of 40 not including the usual braindeadies.



  • Just figured it’d be more fair if it was 60+, since the syndicate would have powerful weapons and good gear and also be able to convert people. I just wana make sure the game type would be balanced.



  • I like the idea, but I don’t think there should be different classes, except one or two syndie “heads”. The staff’s objective could be to hold off the station and NOT let the shuttle be called, as the shuttle is the only way to centcom.
    The communication-console could be made unable to be stripped for its circuit.

    I meant lower the required players and maybe decrease the amount of antags picked.



  • Perhaps the syndie teams could be opposing each other? Like, if you read up on the syndicate background on the /tg/ wiki, there are certain rival companies. So, as an example, there could be a team from Waffle Co. and another from Donk, and they have to “assassinate” the other syndie team.



  • Well if its possible make the number of syndicates based off the number of players on the server. And yeah, I wanted there to be two syndicate leaders, one for each squad and ship who would basically make a plan of attack and guide the rest of the syndicates to victory. That could also add a way for the station to win by killing both syndicate heads thus making them important to the rest of the syndicate so they at least try to protect them as the station would the heads and captain.



  • so basically just revolution which was what i did that night but with combine gear

    it worked almost the exact same way as revolution; the brainwashing process just took forever



  • I think it would be a bit more complex than revolution and it would get the whole server invovled in the game. I just like the idea of the station being invaded and fighting off an attack. At least every once in a while we would have a round full of action and let everyone get a chance to robust a few people.



  • How to beats sydies everyone without a gun charge with stun gloves the whole crew charges the group and overwhelms them by sheer numbers if happens to be a lone guy hes screwed cargo should use the mule bots make sure to order more. Have the captain ride on the mule bot with the disc so he can out run sydies



  • I feel as though there would always be a player who sabotages the singularity.

  • Well damn we need some type of a new game mode and this is the best idea I could get. If the admins do it right this game mode could be a lot of fun.
